Ronaldo Stats: Career Goals, Club Records and the 1,000-Goal Chase
Explore Ronaldo stats by club and country, his Champions League record, the 450–451 Real Madrid discrepancy and the dated gap to 1,000 career goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo had 979 senior career goals in the statistical reference checked on 28 September 2026. Using that total, he was 21 goals short of 1,000. That subtraction describes the gap at the review date; it is not a prediction of when he will reach the milestone.
Ronaldo's record is spread across five clubs and Portugal, with two spells at Manchester United. A useful Ronaldo stats guide should make those parts easy to reconcile. It should also explain why Real Madrid credits him with one more goal than many statistical databases do.
The career figure follows Messi vs Ronaldo App's senior career record, checked on the date above. Subsequent matches may change it. This article is a fixed editorial snapshot, and other comparison pages on the site may have a different displayed cutoff.
Ronaldo's goals by club and country
Team | Goals | Games |
|---|---|---|
Sporting CP | 5 | 31 |
Man United, both spells | 145 | 346 |
Real Madrid | 450 | 438 |
Juventus | 101 | 134 |
Al Nassr | 132 | 155 |
Club subtotal | 833 | 1,104 |
Portugal senior team | 146 | 234 |
Combined senior career | 979 | 1,338 |
The club rows follow the reference's records for Sporting, United, Madrid, Juventus and Al Nassr. Portugal follows the same provider's international record. All were reviewed on 28 September 2026; subtotals are calculated here.
The club goals add to 833. Adding 146 Portugal goals gives 979. Champions League goals and domestic league goals already belong inside those club rows, so do not add them a second time.
Why Real Madrid lists 451 goals instead of 450
Real Madrid's own Ronaldo profile credits him with 451 goals in 438 official appearances, including 312 in La Liga. The statistical convention used in this article records 450 overall and 311 in the league.
The site's methodology identifies the difference as a disputed goal attribution. It is a counting convention that needs to be disclosed, rather than a number to switch silently depending on which table looks better.
For the totals above, the 450 convention is used throughout. Replacing only the Madrid row with 451 while leaving the career total unchanged would break the arithmetic. If you prefer the club's attribution, label that choice and keep every related subtotal consistent.
Either convention gives slightly more than a goal per appearance during his Madrid spell: 450 ÷ 438 is about 1.027; 451 ÷ 438 is about 1.030. The small discrepancy matters for accurate record keeping without changing the broad description of that scoring rate.
The club breakdown tells a story the career average cannot
The Manchester United row combines both periods at the club. It is not a single uninterrupted spell, and it should not be described as his output from the first spell alone.
Juventus and Madrid also represent different lengths of time. A smaller total at one club is not, by itself, evidence of worse performance. The player had a different number of matches in which to accumulate goals.
Here is what the club figures above produce when divided by appearances:
Club | Calculated goals per appearance |
|---|---|
Sporting CP | 0.161 |
Manchester United, both spells | 0.419 |
Real Madrid, 450-goal convention | 1.027 |
Juventus | 0.754 |
Al Nassr | 0.852 |
These are descriptive rates rounded to three decimals, not a ranking of the difficulty of each league. They combine different ages, tactical roles, teammates and minutes per appearance. To investigate how his scoring changed, a season-by-season view is more informative than treating every club spell as an identical experiment.
The Ronaldo player profile provides the site's dated club records. The season explorer helps separate individual periods.
What Ronaldo's Champions League record actually includes
UEFA's Ronaldo record lists 140 goals in 183 appearances in the main competition. It also records 67 knockout-stage goals and his 17-goal 2013/14 campaign.
Those figures answer three different questions: total output, output in the knockout rounds and the size of one season's contribution. You do not add the knockout or single-season figure to 140; each is a subset of the overall record.
UEFA notes that Ronaldo also scored in qualifying. That is why a source that includes qualifying can show a different Champions League total. The 140 figure here excludes those rounds.
For a Messi comparison, use the same boundary for both players. Our Champions League page keeps the competition scope visible. A narrow, consistently defined comparison is easier to interpret than a collection of unrelated records.
Portugal goals and tournament goals are different categories
Ronaldo's Portugal total in the table covers senior A internationals, including recognized friendlies. It is broader than his goals at European Championship finals or World Cup finals. Qualifiers and other senior internationals contribute to the country total too, under the reference's international scope.
If the question is how he performed at a particular tournament, select that competition and edition. If the question is what he contributed across his international career, the whole Portugal record is appropriate.
This distinction also matters when comparing national teams. Different qualifying formats create different schedules and opponents. Raw international totals describe accumulated output; they do not automatically adjust for every difference in opportunity.
Al Nassr goals do not mean Saudi league goals alone
The Al Nassr row covers the source's competitive club scope, including the Arab Club Champions Cup. It is not restricted to Saudi Pro League matches. The Al Nassr breakdown separates the competitions.
Before comparing Ronaldo's Saudi league scoring with another player's league record, select league-only figures on both sides. Cup goals should remain in an all-competitions comparison, and exhibition goals should not be quietly added to a competitive total.
How to follow the race to 1,000 goals
The cleanest method is to start from a dated total and add only newly verified goals within the same scope. At this review, 1,000 − 979 = 21. A future match can reduce that gap, while a change in counting convention can alter the starting total.
Turning the gap into a calendar prediction requires assumptions about appearances, minutes, form and availability. Dividing 21 by a historical scoring rate gives a scenario, not a scheduled achievement. A player can score several times in one match or go several matches without scoring.
The site's milestone tracker is useful for checking its reviewed total and remaining gap. Read the displayed date before treating it as current.
Which numbers matter in a Ronaldo vs Messi comparison?
Start with the same competition, time period and statistical provider. If the question is career scoring volume, use career goals. If it is scoring frequency, show goals per appearance or per 90 alongside the total. If it is attacking contribution, include a clearly defined assist record and acknowledge the actions those counts omit.
A comparison should also say whether it includes penalties. Removing in-match penalty goals can answer a narrower question about scoring, but it does not erase the value of those goals from actual matches. Our penalty records guide separates goals, attempts and conversion rates.
Do shootout kicks count toward 1,000?
No. Under this article's senior career scope, a successful shootout kick is not added to the player's match-goal total. A penalty scored during normal time or extra time does count. Club friendlies and youth matches are also excluded; recognized senior international friendlies are included.
Why might a Ronaldo stats graphic disagree with this article?
Check the date first, then the Madrid attribution, competition filters and inclusion of friendlies. Those checks often explain a difference before any recalculation is needed. The career-goal counting guide is a useful reference when the graphic provides a big number without the rules behind it.
