About The Rivalry.
Two extraordinary careers deserve more than an argument over a single number.
Perspective before verdicts
The Rivalry is an independent football comparison project. We make statistics easier to explore without turning a choice of metrics into an objective verdict about the greatest player.
Our dataset includes published match records through 29 October 2026. It covers 25 calendar years, eight clubs, goals, assists, minutes, scoring breakdowns and international tournaments. Each statistic shows its coverage; unknown classifications remain unverified.
Made to be questioned
Every comparison names its scope and links to supporting sources. Derived figures are explained, assist definitions stay attached to their provider, and categories that overlap are labelled.
Independent by design
This website is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by either player, their clubs, national associations, UEFA or FIFA. Photographs and source names identify the subjects and evidence; they do not imply endorsement.

How the publication works
The site combines a sourced statistical baseline with match updates. Calculations use the displayed counting rules. Provider imports and publishing tools assist this process; a published total is not a claim that every underlying match event has been independently verified.
Automated checks compare totals and detect inconsistent records. They cannot establish whether a source is correct. Readers can inspect the methodology, compare the linked evidence and submit a correction for editorial review.
Evidence and interpretation
Statistical calculations are reproducible from the linked records. Tactical explanations are editorial interpretations, not access to a team’s private instructions. An article’s sources support its factual claims; an interpretation should explain its reasoning and limits.
We use software and AI assistance for drafting, translation and calculations. These tools do not supply independent evidence. Material factual claims need a traceable source, and readers can challenge both the claim and its interpretation through the correction form.
Corrections and accountability
Reports reach a private support inbox. Accepted statistical corrections should include the reason and supporting source in the revision history. A report being received does not mean its proposed change has been accepted.
